Language and Vocabulary: Use the vocabulary of the author, as much as possible, to convey the ideas and conclusions of the author. If you use a quotation excerpted from the work set it within quotation marks. Vary your sentence structure and try to avoid repetivitive vacuuous phrases in your annotations, such as, "The author states," "This article concerns," or "The purpose of this report is," as well as sentences starting with "It was suggested that," "It was found that," and "It was reported that."
Annotations begin on the line following the citation data and may be composed with complete sentences or as verb phrases (the cited work being understood as the subject) again at the discretion of the instructor. The annotation should include most, if not all, of the following:

The research article discusses a study about parental reports of communication problems with health care providers, focusing on low-income families. The researchers use literature and quantitative analysis as the primary methods in their study, and they analyze data from the 6999 and 7557 National Survey of America s Families. The results show that % of low income parents reported poor communication with health care providers, and foreign-born parents were % more likely to report communication problems than American-born parents.
